Alberta Plastics Recycling Association

APRA is a plastics recycling awareness company that has a professional business audience. I have been managing their social media pages on LinkedIn and Twitter to provide content on events, membership info, plastics facts, and more. I use Canva to schedule posts and Adobe Illustrator to design their content. Since I am no expert on the science of plastics, it was challenging for me to find and write content for the posts. However, I was able to manage this by sorting out key points in the articles that I had and by referring to partner companies that had useful content.

APRA Monthly Feature Articles

Networking is an important feature for APRA and to promote this, we started adding feature articles in each of APRA's monthly newsletters. To prepare each newsletter, I send out a customized questionnaire to a member and ask questions regarding their business and what they enjoy about being an APRA member. From their responses, I prepare an article in Word and send it to my manager for proofing and then a final proofing to the client to ensure the information we have is correct. When the article is approved, we make mention of the article in our newsletter and post it on our website.

SURE Print Avenida Social Media Content/Design

To promote SURE Print Avenida, I took on their Instagram and Facebook accounts to make reels, stories, and posts about all that goes on in the shop. When there was something new and exciting being made in the shop I'd grab my phone and get content (even though my coworker doesn't like the camera much haha!). I'd also research what our competitors were posting and what made them successful. With some YouTube and general internet research I found more ways to try and gain followers organically through reels, following accounts with similar interests, and more.

Fueling Brains Academy (Formerly Kids U)

Fueling Brains Academy (previously known as Kids U Inc.) is a daycare and early education center focused on left brain, right brain and movement classes.  During my employment, they were in the process of rebranding their company and organizing outreach events including a meet and greet with Rebecca Schulz, a rebranding celebration event, and a number of Stampede Breakfasts at each of their campuses. Not only was I responsible for designing graphics, but I also worked during their events and I had helped organize some of them as well.

Informative Pollen Season Blog Post

At Fueling Brains Academy, I was responsible for researching and writing a blog post to inform parents about the pollen season in Calgary, AB. I referenced several news organizations and websites for credible information and wrote the blog in a casual tone that was easily readable for parents. While writing this post I had difficulty making the tone of the writing seem conversational, especially after my time spent writing formal papers for university. This issue was later resolved after consulting with my supervisor who advised me to make my writing read more like a casual conversation. I also prepared some headliner images using the photos that Fueling Brains Academy had supplied to me and some hand-drawn illustrations I had made.

Social Media Content

Fueling Brains Academy along with Fueling Minds (their food catering services) was in need of social media content to increase their audience engagement online. Our team member who was responsible for managing the social accounts would ask us to design and research relevant information. I was able to use the photos I took at their New Brighton location in my social media posts along with the other images they already had. I also had some fun with their Friday posts by illustrating "Fun Friday" joke posts for both parents and children to enjoy.

Tales of the Tree Social Media Management

My friend's dad had an at home woodshop with plenty of fun and interesting products that he had put a lot of work into. From guitar shaped coasters to laser etched decorative door hangers, the guy could make anything and everything. When he was showing us his products I offered to create an online presence for his business so he could increase his sales since most of his clients were friends and family. I started by researching Etsy to see what similar products people were selling on there and how they marketed their materials. From there I looked up local markets for the company to attend and make some local sales to gain some more customers.
